A few photos from tonights weekly hike through the New Jersey Palisades park.
The Arbutus tree.
I’ve been noticing all over the desert are these crazy, gnarled looking trees. Just by looking at one you can tell, this tree has had a hard life. Their trunks are a painted mix of brilliant red and sun bleached death. Seemingly half alive and half dead, these trees pepper the landscape adding a glow of color in an otherwise colorless environment.
Nothing like turning the corner on a hot, dry, boulder laden trail and suddenly seeing a giant glowing red tree twisting its way through a rock face.
I went to Idyllwild in California today and found another mountain to climb. Just a couple images before bed. More to come over the next few days.
